About Shawn Babine

BIOGRAPHY

Shawn Babine was born on September 22, 1966 in Brunswick, Maine. He is the second child and first son of Stephen and Patricia (Perkins).

Having excelled as a student at Morse High School (Bath, Maine) and with the influence of his grandparents, Shawn enrolls at the University of Southern Maine in Portland and Gorham Maine (USM) becoming the first to earn a 4 year college education.

After many years of hard work and commitment, Shawn is awarded a bachelor's degree in economics from USM. Earlier that same year, Shawn begins his professional career at Ford Motor Credit Company in Portland, Maine. The next year, Olivia, his only child was born.

In 1994, while working at Ford Motor Credit Company, and juggling the responsibilities of his new family, Shawn accepts the challenge of working towards a masters degree at Southern New Hampshire University and is awarded a MBA in 1999 and an Advanced Graduate Studies Certificate in Human Resource Management in 2000.

Shawn shifts his professional aspirations in 1996 and enters commercial banking as an analyst with Key Bank (Portland Maine), and moves through the management channels onto Northeast Bank (Auburn, Maine) before landing with TD Banknorth (Portland) in 2001.

Today, Shawn is a Senior Vice President in the Business Banking Division of TD Bank and is responsible for managing a $1.2 billion business banking portfolio. Shawn is a key leader in the Bank's transformation and integration with the acquisition of Commerce Bank.

Shawn entered public service in 1999 with his first campaign for a one of two seats on the Scarborough Board of Education, but is defeated by the incumbent and a veteran activist. Six months later both winners resigned and in November 2000, Shawn s wins handidly to a two-year term on the Board of Education.

Since then, Shawn has been elected to the Scarborough Town Council, starting in 2002, and won an uncontested second-term race in 2005 and served as the Council's Vice Chairman. In October 2006, Shawn assumed the role of Chairman for 3 short months after the resignation of the Councilor Steve Ross. After resigning from office in 2007 to assume a new corporate role at TD Bank, Shawn reconsidered his committment and entered the 2008 Council campaign and is one of 6 candidates for 3 seats.
